Guests

These photographs by Christopher Bucklow are quite stunning (gallery images via DLK). I was first exposed to Bucklow’s work on the cover of David Eagleman’s Sum. I highly recommend Eagleman’s book, but only the first edition—don’t buy the more recent editions without the Bucklow image! You can view more images from this series at Bucklow’s website. I think my favorite image is still the one used on the Sum cover.

Favorite Albums of 2011

I listened to more music than ever this year because of Spotify. Here are my favorite albums—not necessarily the best albums of the year, but rather the ones I found myself listening to over and over. (By the way, you can find many of these mp3 albums for $5 or less right now at Amazon-see links)

My Favorite

Civilian, Wye Oak

By far my favorite album of the year. I didn’t listen to anything nearly as much as this album. I also loved listening to earlier Wye Oak albums for the first time—great, great stuff.

The Rest

Burst Apart, The Antlers

Cults, Cults

Father, Son, Holy Ghost, Girls

Hurry Up We’re Dreaming, M83

The King of Limbs, Radiohead

The Long Surrender, Over the Rhine

Nine Types of Light, TV on the Radio

Rome, Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi

Strange Negotiations, David Bazan

Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, Explosions in the Sky

"‘People mustn’t try to understand what I am saying through my works. People should try to see something in them. They must see with their own way of thinking, their own history… In a way, each viewer “finishes” the work with their own vision, their own stance in relation to it.’ You do not need to know what Kiefer knows, or to study what he has read; indeed, he says, ‘many know better than the artist what he has done’."

“I guess you could call it a Christmas present. At this time of year it’s easy to forget the true meaning of Christianity - the lies, the corruption, the abuse.”
