When Sufjan saved my life

This morning the fam and I went to UBC Waco where I was reminded of the time when Sufjan Stevens saved my life. It was during a pretty bad time in life when I was first introduced to Sufjan Stevens. Illinoise, Seven Swans, Michigan, and then everything I could get my hands on. I will always remember his music as healing during those difficult days. There were times when his music was the only place I found any hint of the divine.

This morning Seth Woods (from Mosaic Austin) was leading music at UBC and he played a stirring version of “Vito’s Ordination Song.” Certainly one of the most powerful Sujfan songs - at least from a lyrical perspective. It was a pleasant reminder of the healing power of Sufjan. If only he would ever come out with a new album…anyway, here’s the track from this morning.

And by the way, I love Seth Woods. He is a life-giving desert in the abundant world of Evangelical worship.
