Militant Mysticism

“I like to say that I practice militant mysticism. I’m really absolutely sure of some things that I don’t quite know.”

This quote is from a recent interview with Rob Bell posted at Christianity Today.  Actually, the interview is pretty terrible, or at least the questions are terrible.  It appears the interviewer’s primary intention was to figure out why Rob Bell would care about the world.  But I did like what Bell had to say.  I’d love to hear more about his “militant mysticism.”

In other Rob Bell news, check out the Poets, Prophets, and Preachers event he is hosting in July with Peter Rollins. Yes, Rob Bell and Peter Rollins on the same stage - I can’t think of two more creative and interesting figures within this whole emerging Christian mileau.

In even more Rob Bell news, Brooke and I have watched his two tour videos over the past week or two - “Everything Is Spiritual” and “The Gods Aren’t Angry.”  I liked them both, but really what I most appreciate about Bell is his creativity in presenting his message - and that’s why I’d love to go to the “Poets, Prophets, and Preachers” event.  If anyone else is interested in going, let me know.  Perhaps we can work out a way to go and split some of the expenses.
